Jawan

After the colossal debacle of Zero in 2018, Shah Rukh Khan made a smashing comeback this year by striking hat-trick. After Pathaan, he went on to break his own record with staggering success of Atlee directorial Jawan. The movie which released on 7th September earned a whooping Rs 640.25 crores domestically.

Pathaan

Pathaan set the stage for Indian cinema in 2023, earning global success. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham, the heist movie directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Yash Raj Films. Talking about its collection, it went on to innaugrate the 500 crore club domestically. In India, it went on to become 2nd highest grosser of 2023 by collecting Rs 543.09 cr.

Animal

Ranbir Kapoor emerged as superstar of his generation by essaying an alpha male character in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal. Despite a non-holiday release with long duration and A certification the film had a phenomenal run at the ticket windows. It went on to collect Rs 539.09 cr in India.

Gadar 2

Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer Gadar was undoubtedly a surprise package that emerged as highest grossing indian movies of 2023. Directed by Anil Sharma, the movie is the sequel to the 2001 popular film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. The nostalgic value of the movie played a major role. Not only this, it also played a major role in the reopening of single screens. It went on to collect Rs 525.7 crores in India.

Jailer

Superstar Rajnikanth also ruled the box office this year as his release Jailer emerged as the 5th highest-grossing Indian movie in 2023. The mass actioner collected about Rs 348.55 crore nett at the domestic box office.

Leo

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj collaborated with Thalapathy Vijay and the two had set the box office on fire. Leo was loved by audiences across the world and it raked in Rs 341.04 crores domestically.

Salaar: Part 1: Ceasefire

After the massive success of the KGF franchise, director Prashanth Neel proved he is here to rule at the box office. In less than a span of week, the movie earned Rs 288.8 crores* in India.

Adipurush

Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan starrer mythological drama received flak due to its visual effects and storytelling. Despite that, the movie went on to earn Rs 288.15 crores in India.

Tiger 3

Superstar Salman Khan also left no stone unturned to rule the box office. He reunited with Katrina Kaif for their popular franchise and YRF’s spy universe Tiger 3. The movie recorded a bumper Diwali opening of Rs 44.50 (Hi:43, Others: 1.50) the movie went on to mint Rs 282.79 crores.

The Kerela Story

The Kerala Story released in cinemas on May 5 amid multiple bans and controversies. The film talked about how women are lured into religious conversions and admitted to ISIS. It created a roar at the box office ever since its release mostly due to its controversial subject it was even given A certification. Starring Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, and Siddhi Idnani in lead roles, the movie stands as 7th highest grosser of 2023 with a collection of Rs 241.74 crores in India.

Ponniyin Selvan 2

Ponniyin Selvan: Part II or simply PS2 completed its successful theatrical run at Rs 181.96 crores. The movie helmed by Mani Ratnam featured an ensemble cast including Aishwarya Rai, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan and Sobhita Dhulipala, among others.

Varisu

Both in India as well as overseas, Varisu has done really well, proving Thalapathy Vijay’s stronghold. The movie released on Pongal 2023 and witnessed a clash with Ajith Kumar’s Varisu. It netted an impressive collection of Rs 178.14 crores domestically.

Waltair Veerayya

Karan Johar’s directorial comeback with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani charmed audiences with its romantic comedy family drama. Released on July 28, 2023, the film features Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, and other veteran actors. It is the 8th highest-grossing Hindi movie of 2023. It earned Rs 153.55 crores domestically.

Omg 2

Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, and Yami Gautam Dhar starrer is a spiritual sequel to OMG – Oh My God! (2012). The film revolves around the importance of sex education in India. Directed by Amit Rai, the movie received an A certification due to its subject. Despite that, it earned Rs 151.16 crores in India.
