War 2 Hrithik Roshan Jr NTR Ayan Mukerji

Ayan Mukerji’s much-hyped and much-awaited War 2 starring Hrithik Roshan as Major Kabir Dhaliwal and NTR as Major Vikram Chelapathi released on August 14 and has failed to live up to fan’s expectation. As per reports, the actioner – which released alongside Rajinikanth’s Coolie, underperformed at the box office, emerging as the lowest opening film in the YRF Spy Universe. Scroll below for the details.

War 2 Box Office Collection

As reported by Bollywood Hungama, Ayan Mukerji’s War 2 witnessed low footfalls on Day 1. As per the early estimates, the film had a slow start in Hindi, earning around Rs 28 to Rs 30 crores on its opening day. The reports revealed that national chains amassed around Rs 13 crores on the first day, with a contribution of about 47 percent.

Despite massive hype, the mega budget film – which received mixed to negative reviews from critics and audience alike, shows signs that it may be in not make or break box office records. The Rs 29-30 crore collection report places War 2 lower than not just War but even the first film in the YRF Spy Universe, Ek Tha Tiger (2012). Check out the Day 1 collections of all the films in the universe.

Opening Day Collection Of YRF Spy Universe movies

Pathaan Rs 57 Cr

Tiger 3 Rs 44.50 Cr
.
Ek Tha Tiger
Rs 32.93 Cr
Tiger Zinda Hai Rs 34.10 Cr
War 2 Rs 28–30 Cr (estimated)

Given the extended holiday weekend, there is hope the film may see a jump in its collection, but chances of being huge is low. The advances booking for the film on Independence Day are not big either.

About The Film

Giving War 2 a 2-star rating, Bollywood Bubble wrote in its review, “War 2 had all the right ingredients on paper, but wasted two megastars, exotic locations, and the backing of YRF’s spy franchise. The weak writing, overblown action, and style-over-substance execution turn this potential blockbuster into a missed opportunity. It’s a shadow of the original War, with the hype far outpacing the final product. Watch it only if you’re a die-hard fan of Hrithik or NTR. Everyone else can wait for streaming.”
