Kanwar Dhillon

Known for his consistent performances and strong screen presence, Kanwar Dhillon has carved a successful space for himself in the television industry over the years. From shows like The Buddy Project, Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha 2, Do Dil Ek Jaan, Piya Rangrezz, and Internet Wala Love to becoming a household name with his portrayal of Shiva Pandya in Pandya Store, the actor has built an impressive journey on Indian television. Currently, he is winning appreciation for playing Sachin Deshmukh in Udne Ki Aasha.

Kanwar Dhillon Reflects On Demanding Schedule Of TV Serials

Talking about the demanding schedule of television, Kanwar Dhillon candidly shared how daily soaps often push actors beyond their limits. “Long shooting hours are something that, beyond a point, get out of your control when you reach the saturation point of delivering episodes for the next day’s telecast. For a very long time, Udne Ki Aasha was on a one-hour slot, and there have been times when we literally delivered episodes on the same day or even the night before. In situations like that, where it’s unavoidable, you need to push yourself. Unfortunately, with UKA, I pushed myself a lot,” he said.

He further added, “Having said that, we are going back to a one-hour slot again for some time due to some internal reasons best known to the concerned party, so I will tackle it again.”

Despite the hectic routine, the actor believes maintaining mental and physical balance is extremely important. “Of course, you need to be mentally and physically balanced. Touch wood, I have a wonderful team with whom I manage that balance. If I’m shooting extra hours, I make sure I get my six to seven hours of sleep before coming back to set. That’s very important,” he shared.

Kanwar Dhillon On How TV Schedules Affect Personal Routines

Kanwar also admitted that television schedules often affect personal routines. “Because of this schedule, a lot of things get compromised, your gym routine and other activities. But that’s the reality of television. I think the most important aspect, mentally and physically, is proper sleep, and that is something I pay close attention to. Earlier, it wasn’t the case, but then I realised it shows on your face. So now, I make sure to catch up on sleep and simply stay positive. I don’t stress unnecessarily.”

Speaking about storytelling, the actor stressed the importance of freshness in writing.“Script variation is just as important as an actor’s variation, to be honest. For overall engagement, for an actor to stay connected to the character, for the audience to stay invested in the show. And to feel for the character, it all goes hand in hand. So, script variation is one of the most important things for any show, and naturally for an actor too,” he explained.

He continued, “Any repetition in scripting eventually leads to repetition in screenplay, dialogues, and everything else. So yes, script variation is absolutely one of the most crucial factors.”

Kanwar On How He Keeps Motivated

When asked what keeps him motivated even on exhausting days, Kanwar credited his passion for performance. “My focus on my performance, my scene, and how I will execute it keeps me motivated. I am a workaholic and I genuinely enjoy my work. I try to perform every scene with complete honesty and give my best to everything I do,” he said. He added, “Even in scenes I may not be too excited or hyped about, my only focus is to give it my best. Because I stay focused on performing well, I don’t think too much about other things.”

The actor also acknowledged the financial security that comes with consistent work. “Apart from that, of course, the money I make while working on a project is also a huge motivation,” he shared honestly.

Talking about playing long-running characters, Kanwar said, “Fortunately, with Sachin and Udne Ki Aasha, I haven’t felt that too often. Of course, there are times when you notice certain repetitions and you don’t want to perform it the same way. So, I try to reinvent scenes in my own way and deliver the same dialogue differently, even if I’ve said it several times before. I always try to bring variation and freshness into my lines.”

Kanwar Dhillon Reveals Misconceptions About TV Actors

Kanwar also addressed a long-standing misconception about television actors. “One misconception people used to have about television actors. And I’m not sure if they still do, is that TV actors are overexposed and may not know how to act. But I strongly disagree,” he stated.

He added, “Television actors who are genuinely skilled, and I consider myself to be a decent actor too, can easily adapt to other mediums. In fact, for actors who have worked extensively in television like me, working in another medium would feel like luxury.”

Ending on a strong note about the realities of the television industry. He said, “The amount of work we do in a single day, the number of scenes we shoot, is something no other medium does. The level of hard work, discipline, and daily grinding that television actors go through is unmatched. Television actors are trained for all kinds of circumstances, and that is something I truly want people to understand.”
