Till today Bollywood has always steered clear of certain complex territories. First-time director Harshavardhan Kulkarni must, therefore, be lauded for making Hunterrr. As Hunterrr is an Indian version of an adult comedy film. Hunterr has all the masala needed to be a complete entertainer. There is comedy, action, mystery, romance, tragedy in it. But somewhere the writer has missed that essential ingredient.

The film features Gulshan Devaiah, Radhika Apte and Sai Tamhankar in lead roles. The story of ‘Hunterrr’ revolves around an unassuming sex addict and his lustful journey. It is the story of an average boy that grows into a deviant who cannot keep his mind off women.

Mandar Ponkshe (Gulshan Devaiah) is someone who can only and only think of sex and he hits on almost every girl who crosses his path. The film revolves around his sexual escapades and how he manages to make women (Veera Saxena, Sai Tamhankar, Radhika Apte) fall for him. And what’s unbelievable is that there are many women out there who fall for this idiot!

So what happens to Mandar in the end, does he settle down in marital bliss or continues with his escapades?

The music of the movie by Bappi Lahiri and Altaf Raja hit the right note. Prajwal Joshi’s screenplay and Harshavardhan Kulkarni’s direction are great. The story of ‘Hunterr’ has been written by Harshavardhan Kulkarni, who is also the director of the film. But the most annoying are the series of unnecessary flashbacks. You are taken back and forth through the decade at irregular intervals and after a few times you are completely lost!

Everyone in ‘Hunterrr’ is well-cast, as though they’re real people instead of performers. Gulshan Devaiah is superb as Mandar. The nuances that he brought to the character of Mandar Ponkshe, was brilliant. He has well captured the earnestness of this man-child. He is as good as Amol Palekar was in his heydays.

Sai Tamhankar plays the lusty, married neighbour whose hormones go into an over at the mere sight of Mandar, is truly sizzling. She truly scorches in every frame of the film. Radhika Apte too has perfectly portrayed her character. She plays Tripti, Mandar’s arranged marriage catch. After a couple of bad relationships, Tripti figures she’s not getting any younger so she might as well surrender to tradition. Veera Saxena as the dumb, confused, teenager who wants to fall in love for the first time, takes you back in time when you too must have met such a girl at some point of your life. But all in all, the women in ‘Hunterr’ are somewhat annoying. No sensible woman is going to feel kindly towards Indian men after ‘Hunterrr’.

‘Hunterr’ has an opportunity to grow if audience give a thumbs up. Otherwise it is just for the men to get some titters.
