Ashutosh Gowariker

Director Ashutosh Gowariker is back with ‘Mohenjo Daro’ after a long hiatus of 6 years. In fact, he doesn’t deny that his filmography is short and his wife keeps telling him to do something contemporary and finish within a year. His last release was ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey’ in the year 2010.

Gowariker told a leading daily, “For Hrithik, the gap is shorter than mine. So, I am really looking forward to the reaction. I do feel that the gap has been long. Sunita keeps telling me why can’t we make a contemporary film and finish it in a year. I want to do that but I need to have a story that inspires me.” The ‘Lagaan’ director spends ample amount of time to research on his subject and that’s one of the reasons for long gaps. “I like creating another world, era and time zone. Within that era, what attracts me is to tell an untold story. It is great fun. In ‘Jodhaa Akbar’, the chapter that was missing was what happened in their chamber. So, it was exciting to create that romance in Mughal period”, says Gowariker.

‘Mohenjo Daro’ released today and stars Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles.
