Malayalam Actor Shanavas Passes Away At 71

Veteran Malayalam actor Shanavas, son of legendary actor Prem Nazir, passed away late Monday night at the age of 70. He had been suffering from heart and kidney problems for the past four years. His condition worsened on Monday night, and he was admitted to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, where he died around 11:50 pm.

Malayalam Actor Shanavas Dies At 71

Shanavas was born in Thiruvananthapuram to Prem Nazir and Habeeba Beevi. He completed his schooling at Chirayinkeezhu English Medium School, Montfort School, and Yercaud. He later earned a master’s degree in English Literature from New College, Chennai.

Shanavas began his film career in 1981 with Premageethangal, directed by Balachandra Menon. He went on to act in more than 50 Malayalam and Tamil films. Some of his notable movies include Mazhanilavu, Eeyugam, Maniyara, Neelagiri, Garbhashreemaan, and Zachariyayude Garbhinikal. After a break from films, he made a comeback in 2011 with China Town. His final film appearance was in Jana Gana Mana, starring Prithviraj.


Apart from movies, Shanavas was also active in television. He acted in many popular serials such as Shankhumukham, Velutha Kathreena, Kadamatathu Kathanar, and Sathyameva Jayathe.

He is survived by his wife Ayesha Abdul Aziz and sons Ajith Khan and Shameer Khan. His daughter-in-law, Hana, is also part of the family. They lived in Vazhuthacaud, Thiruvananthapuram.

Shanavas’s funeral will be held on Tuesday at 5 pm at the Palayam Muslim Jamaath Cemetery. Family, friends, and fans are expected to gather to pay their final respects to the actor.
