Manjummel Boys Director Chidambaram S Poduval Gets Anticipatory Bail In 2022 S*xual Harassment Case- Deets Inside

Malayalam filmmaker Chidambaram S Poduval has been embroiled in controversy following allegations of s*xual harassment against a young woman in 2022. The case was filed with the Kochi police, accusing him of trespassing into the complainant’s apartment and engaging in inappropriate behaviour.

According to the latest update from Live Law, the director has been granted anticipatory bail by the District and Sessions Court in Ernakulam. The court, presided over by District Judge Sri K.K. Balakrishnan, passed the order on Saturday, March 7.

The charges against Chidambaram relate to Sections 74 (ass*ult or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 75 (s*xual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The case was registered after the complainant’s statement was recorded. Chidambaram has yet to respond publicly to the allegations.

Prior to the news breaking, Chidambaram had made his Instagram account private. Rumours had circulated about the Manjummel Boys team planning to make a film with actor Dileep. In response, he posted on his Instagram stories, urging people to verify information before spreading rumours and clarifying that he is not a “survival thriller specialist.”

About Chidambaram

Hailing from Payyanur, Chidambaram began his career in the Malayalam film industry as an assistant director to Jayaraj. He was also an assistant cinematographer to Rajeev Ravi and KU Mohanan, the father of actress Malavika Mohanan. He made his directorial debut with the 2021 film Jan.E.Man. Basil Joseph, Lal, Arjun Ashokan, Balu Varghese, and Ganapathi S Poduval were featured in the film.

He gained widespread recognition with his 2024 film Manjummel Boys, a survival thriller inspired by true events. The film depicts a group of friends facing misfortune during their 2006 vacation at the Guna caves. However, it became one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films, earning Rs 241 crore worldwide and over Rs 142 crore net domestically. It stars Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Deepak Parambol, Balu Varghese, among others.

His upcoming project is Balan, produced by Venkat K Narayana and Shailaja Desai Fenn under KVN Productions and Thespian Films. The film features music by Sushin Shyam, cinematography by Shyju Khalid, and editing by Vivek Harshan.
