Radhika Apte has spoken candidly about the challenges that new mothers encounter within the Bollywood industry, especially when it comes to balancing their careers with motherhood. Currently in London with her six-month-old daughter, she shared her uncertainties about managing the industry’s demanding schedules and long working hours, which often keep mothers away from their children. As discussions around the difficulties faced by new mothers in the film world gain momentum, Apte has shed light on the real-life struggles of juggling both roles.

Radhika Apte Admits Bollywood Makes It Difficult For New Mothers To Work

In an interview with Screen, the actress addressed how the industry operates for women like her. When asked if the industry is accommodating towards the needs of new mothers, she responded, “I don’t think they are. I don’t know how I’m going to navigate that going ahead.”

She further elaborated on the issue, saying, “It’s really difficult to work in our film industry, given the number of hours and how we film generally and the time for which we don’t get to see the child. So I guess I’ll just have to figure it out now.”

Deepika’s Exit From Sandeep Reddy Vanga-Prabhas Spirit

Apte’s candid remarks come amidst recent reports about actress Deepika Padukone, who reportedly withdrew from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s upcoming project, Spirit, starring Prabhas. One of Padukone’s main concerns was the length of the workday, as she requested shorter eight-hour shifts instead of extended filming schedules. This incident has reignited conversations about whether Bollywood is adapting to meet the evolving needs of its artists, especially women balancing motherhood.

Additionally, during a recent trailer launch for the film Maa, actor Ajay Devgn addressed the topic, stating that shorter working hours are manageable for sincere producers. He emphasised that “shorter 8-9 hour shifts should become the norm,” indicating a potential shift towards more worker-friendly schedules in the industry. At an International event, Saif also opened up on balancing worklife with family time. He said he hates it when he comes home only to find his kids asleep.
