The first big Bollywood film to release after the 2nd wave lockdown – the Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor and Huma Qureshi starrer Bell Bottom finally makes it to the big screen today. Let us check how much the action thriller has opened with in the morning shows across India. The response to the trailer has been fabulous garnering 43 million views in 15 days (it was launched on 3rd August) while the promotion by Pooja Films have been superb. Directed by Ranjit M. Tewari and written by Aseem Arrora and Parveez Shaikh, Bell Bottom has received solid reviews from the critics while the audience seems satisfied with the action thriller as seen from imdb.com, carrying 7.7 from 250 users as of now.

According to a report on popdiaries, on the occasion of Muharram holiday today, the 2D version of Bell Bottom has opened to 19-21% occupancy in the morning across India. The 3D version of the action thriller has slightly fared better with 23-25% occupancy which has brought some positive news to the filmmakers and the box office which was in a dry state since the last big release – John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi starrer Mumbai Saga. As the word of mouth reviews is encouraging, the collections should grow in the afternoon and evening shows while Bell Bottom has 3 more days to bring in more moolah.

However, the current challenges with Maharasthra cinemas being shut down and 50% occupancy allowed by the government will pose a threat to the box office collections of the action thriller. The only respite is from states like Gujarat, UP and Rajasthan which should give some hope. Last week, the Punjabi film Puaada has done well in North India and Akshay Kumar has a huge fan base.

Meanwhile Akshay Kumar has thanked Ajay Devgn for his kind words on BellBottom and also dropped a hint on theatres opening up in Maharashtra. He wrote, “Thank you so much Brother, means a lot Hugging face I pray Maharashtra opens up soon and you’d also able to watch it Would love to know your thoughts.”

The espionage thriller was originally scheduled to release in April this year but was postponed to July 27 due to the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in India. Akshay Kumar, who had spate of hits in the past few years including Good Newwz (Rs196 crore), Housefull 4 (Rs205 crore), Mission Mangal (Rs192 crore) and Kesari (Rs151 crore) in 2019 alone, returns as a nationalist with his character out to save the country from evil forces.
