Sara Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan starrer ‘Coolie No. 1’ released on December 25 on Amazon Prime Video. It is the remake of the 1995 film with the same name that starred Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in lead roles. The remake is also directed by David Dhawan.

Sara has stepped into the shoes of Karisma and when we asked if she had added anything extra to the character, Sara said, “I would like to hope so. Karisma maam is a huge star in herself but I have tried to do my own take to it. This film was made 25 years ago, so somewhere with the choreography, the dialogue, the screenplay, every way we have tried to kind of have a sense of newness and modernity to it. I hope we have been successful in doing that.”

We also asked Sara if she had any doubt in pulling off the iconic character of Karisma, she said, “Of course, I did have doubts. But on Day 1, when I met David sir and Varun, I realised the comfort that I have with both of them and how sure they are in what they are doing, I think it immediately subsided all my fears. Having David sir with me; he is the captain of the ship and if he is with me telling me what to do, then it’s not my business to be nervous. It’s my business to go and enjoy myself and so you can enjoy watching me. Varun was always there with me. Nervousness became pure excitement very soon.”

Sara also said that she didn’t take the pressure of doing the remake of such an iconic film. “I don’t feel the pressure. Of course, I am aware but I know that if I take the pressure of anything I won’t be able to perform. I just have to go there with my actor and director and have a blast on set which we did every day,” she said.

The honeymoon scene of Karisma and Govinda’s ‘Coolie No. 1’ is her favourite. Sara said, “I don’t think we have tried to copy it but it’s the only scene that we watched. I watched ‘Coolie No. 1’ once really long ago and then I watched it again after signing it. Varun and I were made to watch that scene the day before we shot.”
