Dhurandhar The Revenge Faces Trouble In Tamil Nadu; Ban Plea Filed In Madras HC Ahead Of TN Elections

Dhurandhar The Revenge continues to dominate headlines, not just for its record-breaking box office run. But also for the controversies surrounding its politically charged narrative. The Ranveer Singh-starrer has crossed Rs 500 crore in India within just 5 days of its release. Earning widespread praise for its high-octane action, gritty storytelling, and gory, intense visuals. However, alongside audience acclaim, the film has also sparked debate. With sections labelling it as propaganda due to its strong political undertones.

Dhurandhar The Revenge Faces Trouble; Ban Plea Filed In Madras HC

Amid this backdrop, an urgent plea has reportedly been made before the Madras High Court seeking a ban on the film’s release in Tamil Nadu ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. According to Live Law, the matter was orally mentioned before Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan.

The petitioner argued that the film’s political themes could influence voter sentiment, especially with Tamil Nadu heading to the polls in a month. Advocate Sheela, who raised the issue, highlighted that the Model Code of Conduct is already in force following the Election Commission of India’s announcement on March 15, with voting scheduled for April 23, 2026.

She urged the court to restrain the screening of Dhurandhar The Revenge in the state until the completion of polling, stating that its exhibition could resume afterwards. The concern, as presented, centres on the possibility of the film impacting public opinion during a sensitive electoral period.

The bench, however, directed the petitioner to formally file a writ petition and seek an urgent hearing, making it clear that any decision on halting the film’s release would only come after due legal process.

As the film continues its massive theatrical run and fuels conversations across the country, this latest legal development adds another layer to its already eventful journey. With elections around the corner and debates intensifying over politically sensitive content, all eyes are now on the court’s next move regarding the film’s fate in Tamil Nadu.
