Hema Malini Raises Concern Over Deepfake & AI Videos

Actor and BJP MP Hema Malini spoke in Lok Sabha on Thursday about the dangers of deepfake technology, emphasizing its harmful effects on celebrities. She urged that this issue should not be taken lightly, as deepfake videos tarnish reputations and severely impact the mental health of victims.

Hema Malini On AI-Deepfake Videos And Social Media Misuse

During Zero Hour, Hema Malini highlighted how artificial intelligence (AI) and deepfake technology have taken over the digital world. While technology has its advantages, it is also being used to target film industry celebrities, she said.

“These celebrities have worked very hard to make a name, fame and popularity. Many of us have become victims of this ruthless misuse which creates multiple fake videos tarnishing the image of the person concerned. These go viral and cast a tremendous impact on the victims’ mental health,” she stated.

She also added that such viral fake content can cause significant distress to those affected and should be addressed seriously.

Hema Malini’s Journey From Films To Politics

Before entering politics, Hema Malini had a successful career in Bollywood. She made her acting debut in 1963 with the Tamil film Idhu Sathiyam and later debuted in Hindi cinema with Sapno Ka Saudagar (1968).

In the 1970s, she became Bollywood’s beloved “Dream Girl” and starred in numerous hit films, many alongside Dharmendra, whom she married in 1980. They have two daughters, Esha and Ahana Deol, both of whom have worked in the industry.

Hema Malini joined the BJP in 2004 after actively campaigning for the party since 1999. As a politician, she continues to raise important issues affecting society, including the dangers of deepfake technology.
