Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar took over the box office and social media soon after it released in theatres on December 5, 2025. In the week since its sequel – Dhurandhar The Revenge, released globally, this Ranveer Singh-led spy action thriller has been impressing millions and making box office history. After several actors and filmmakers praised the film, now veteran screenwriter Javed Akhtar has also showered love on the espionage thriller.

During a recent interview, Akhtar spoke about watching the film and reaching out to director Aditya Dhar soon after that. Scroll below to read all he shared.

Javed Akhtar Praises Dhurandhar

As reported by Bollywood Hungama, during an interaction with Zoom, Javed Akhtar Recounting his experience, he said, “I saw Dhurandhar. It’s a great film. Bahut achhi banayi hui hai (a very well made film). I actually found the number of the director (Aditya Dhar) and called him to congratulate this young man who has made this film. It is a very good film.”

While several actors from South Indian cinemas praised Dhurandhar 2, the film has received almost no recognition from Bollywood stars. This praise from Javed Ji is a huge deal for the film.

Presented by Jio Studios and produced by Aditya Dhar’s B62 Studios, Dhurandhar: The Revenge is written and directed by Dhar. The film is co-produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar and sees Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Danish Pandor and Gaurav Gera reprise their roles from the first film.

The sequel gives the audience a glimpse into Jaskirat Singh Rangi’s past and why he became Hamza Ali Mazari. The spy action thriller details Hamza’s rise in the Karachi underworld and the lengths he goes to in order to take down terrorist organisation in Pakistan. Giving the film a 4.5 star rating, Bollywood Bubble wrote in its review, “Dhurandhar 2 Will Not Disappoint. From Aditya Dhar’s writing and direction to Ranveer Singh’s power-packed but emotional and raw performance to its music, side character arcs, set design, action, VFX and more, all the boxes have been ticked.”

Unlike the first part, this instalment of the high-octane spy-action spectacle has released in five languages — Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
