When Neil Nitin Mukesh’s grandpa, the renowned vocalist Mukesh, died, he was five years old. Neil relied on tales from his father, musician Nitin Mukesh, and grandmother because he didn’t have many strong recollections of him. Additionally, he has been working on a script that documents Mukesh’s life and times for the past two years.
Neil Nitin Mukesh To Chronicle Mukesh’s Life In Upcoming Biopic
Speaking exclusively to News18, Neil reveals, “My team and I’ve been writing for quite some time. Not many know that I’m a professional writer and have a production house too. There’s a full exercise in place – every time I sit down with my father, I listen to anecdotes about my grandfather from him, go through the archives of whatever we’ve of him like his memorabilia and photographs.”
According to Neil, Mukesh’s life makes for a great cinematic tale. He has his content ready and is ready to showcase his inspiring journey to people. He also revealed being in talks with Tere Bin Laden and Parmanu: The Story Of Pokhran fame Abhishek Sharma, who recently directed Neil in the web series, Hai Junoon.
“We’re just trying to figure out the right medium, the producers to collaborate with, the actors and the filmmakers to come onboard. I’ve had a word with Abhishek. He was the one who brought up the conversation. He’s truly excited about the idea. I’m waiting for him to get free. I would love to listen to how he’s envisioning it,” he states.
Who Will Be Playing Mukesh On-Screen?
Neil Nitin Mukesh believes he is the best choice to play his grandfather, legendary singer Mukesh, in the upcoming biopic. He feels a deep personal connection to the role, supported by his father, Nitin Mukesh, who also wishes to see him portray his grandfather for emotional reasons. Neil feels he understands Mukesh better than anyone else and is confident in his ability to do justice to the character.
However, Neil also takes a practical approach. He acknowledges that the film industry works differently, where opportunities are often given based on how actors are perceived, their box office appeal, and now even their social media following. While he believes he is the most suitable actor for the role, he respects the realities of the business.
Neil is open to the idea of another actor playing Mukesh if the producers decide that it would be better for the film, whether for creative or financial reasons. Despite his confidence in his talent, he remains grounded and realistic about the decision ultimately lying in the hands of those funding the project.
