salman khan on south cinema

Salman Khan is making his much-awaited Eid comeback with Sikandar on Sunday (March 30). The film stars actress Rashmika Mandanna alongside him who is a popular name down south. This movie also marks Salman’s collaboration with South director AR Murugadoss. In a recent media interaction ahead on Sikandar release, Salman Khan shared his thoughts on why Hindi cinema fails to do wonders in South market.

Salman Khan critiques Bollywood’s Reception in the South

During a promotional event for Sikandar, Salman Khan said, “I have worked with many South technicians, directors, actors, and actresses. I’ve collaborated with them often. But when my film is released there, it will not get the numbers because their fan following is very strong. I’ll walk on the street, and they will say, ‘Bhai, Bhai’, but they will not go to the theatres. The way we’ve accepted them here that hasn’t happened there. Their films do well because we go and see them. When there is a Rajnikanth Garu film, Chiranjeevi Garu, Ram Charan, Suriya, and other actors’ films, we go and watch them. But their fans don’t always come to watch ours.”

The actor was then quizzed on why Bollywood is not casting south stars in Hindi films in order to market those films in the south territories. To this, Salman answered, “The thing is money… They also charge, and we also charge. To make a film like this, it is a big responsibility. You need to have a script like that. For instance, in a film like Ramayana, they can cast everyone from here and there (south).”

Meanwhile, Salman Khan is in talks to collaborate with Atlee for a massive project. However, the movie is delayed. The action-packed entertainer, initially set to begin production this year, has been put on hold as the makers reassess its massive budget.
