Pranit More has finally responded to the viral Rs 370 biryani controversy that sparked massive outrage across social media. The comedian issued a public apology on Saturday and admitted that he made a “lapse in judgment” by allowing the conversation to continue during his stand-up performance.
The controversy began after a clip from Pranit More’s show went viral online. During crowd work, audience member Himanshu Jangra narrated a dating experience and claimed that after spending Rs 370 on a plate of chicken biryani during a date, he expected intimacy from the woman in return. The remarks triggered sharp criticism online, with several users calling the comments misogynistic and deeply problematic.
Pranit More Issues Public Apology Over Rs 370 Cr Biryani Row
As backlash intensified, Pranit addressed the issue through a video posted on his Instagram account. In the video, he acknowledged the criticism against him and admitted that he should have intervened earlier instead of encouraging the interaction. Explaining his side, Pranit said, “While I was doing crowd work with that guy, he said many derogatory things, but everyone was laughing. I got carried away, and it was a lapse in judgment. I feel this was a big mistake on my part, I could have stopped him there or taken a stand, but I didn’t.”
The comedian further admitted that giving the audience member a platform allowed the situation to escalate further. “I gave him a platform, which caused things to escalate. To anyone who was hurt because of this, I want to apologise. Whatever legal proceedings are happening against me, I am cooperating with the authorities,” he added.
Pranit also requested people to give him another chance and said the controversy has become a learning experience for him. He stated, “I am working on myself, I will work on my content, and you will be able to see this in my work in the future.”
The issue escalated further after more details from the stand-up interaction surfaced online. According to viral clips, Himanshu allegedly described aggressively pressuring the woman despite her refusal. Critics also pointed out that the audience cheered during the exchange, while Pranit laughed along and even awarded the man a cash prize during the show.
About The Rs 370 Biryani Row
Ironically, Pranit himself uploaded the original clip on his Instagram account before it went viral across social media platforms. Soon after, many content creators, influencers and public figures criticised the comedian for failing to stop the conversation or challenge the remarks made on stage.
The controversy soon had real-world consequences. Himanshu Jangra’s Gurugram-based employer, Starvik Design, publicly announced that it had terminated his employment following the viral incident.
The Aftermath Of The Controversy
Meanwhile, the matter also entered the political and legal space. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reacted to the controversy and said that while freedom of speech is important, individuals should not cross limits.
The National Commission for Women also took suo motu cognisance of the viral clip. The commission stated that the remarks appeared to “glorify sexual coercion and non-consensual conduct towards a woman.” NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar reportedly wrote to the Haryana Director General of Police seeking immediate action and an Action Taken Report within seven days.
The Rs 370 biryani controversy has now become one of the most debated conversations online, reigniting discussions around the limits of stand-up comedy, accountability during live performances and the responsibility creators hold while engaging with sensitive topics in public spaces.
