Aastha Gill Reveals The Backstory Behind Hit Song ‘DJ Waale Babu’

When asked about the backstory behind the song, DJ Waale Babu, and whether choosing party tracks is a conscious decision, Aastha Gill said, “Nahi, mujhe toh pata bhi nahi tha. When I dubbed this song, I was like, ‘yeh kya likha hai aapne — DJ Waale Babu mera gaana?’ Obviously, normal insaan ke dimaag mein nahi aata hai yeh lyrics. But he was like, ‘I went to a Haryanvi wedding where an old aunty said that to a DJ — ‘arre DJ waale babu, hamara gaana toh laga de,’ something like that.’ So that’s where he caught it from. Toh yeh real-life example se hi nikalta hai lyrics. And I think it worked pretty well in our favour.”

Aastha Gill Gives Her Take On How She Personally Distinguishes The Success Between Her Independent And Bollywood-Featured Songs

When asked how she differentiates between the success of her independent tracks and songs featured in Bollywood films, Aastha Gill said, “When you have Bollywood support, it’s easy to make a song big. If the song is good, it’s gonna blow up; you cannot stop it. But for an independent release, the happiness is double, even triple. That feeling is something I can’t explain, because it’s a song that you have believed in, and it portrays you as a personality.”

The singer further added, “And at that time, when we started DJ Waale Babu, the non-film scene in India started booming again. Now it’s all crazy — 10 saal pehle, after the ‘90s, dobara se non-film music ka craze start hua tha hamari country mein. So I was there, I was a part of it. So jab non-film ka gaana hit hota hai na, it’s a completely different feeling altogether. Like, there are no words to explain that.”
