Kashish Kapoor, who rose to prominence after MTV Splitsvilla X5, has often spoken her mind without filters, something that has earned her both admiration and backlash. One such moment came during Ganpati Visarjan last year, when a video she shared complaining about excessive noise snowballed into severe online trolling and a deeply unsettling real-life experience. In an exclusive conversation, Kashish revisited the incident, detailing how a simple concern turned into harassment, misogyny, and fear. Read on to know more.
Kashish Kapoor Calls Out Misogyny
Recalling how the issue first escalated within her own residential space, Kashish shared how discussions around the video unexpectedly entered her building’s WhatsApp group. “Jab mera Ganpati ka scene hua, mere building ke WhatsApp group mein ye charcha ho gayi, which I found irrational. Koi zarurat nahi hai yaha laane ki,” she said. She further revealed how disturbing comments followed, adding, “Waha pe ek lady ne pehla comment pata hai kya kiya, ‘isko bolo pure kapde pehne fir isko awaaz nahi aayegi.’ I mean kapde aur awaaz ka kya lena dena. This is misogyny, this is s*xism.”
Things only worsened when another individual allegedly misused the situation. Kashish explained, “Then there was another lady, girl, ‘unsuccessful loser’, she’s also from this field only, but nobody knows her, that is why she was trying to leech off me. Usne us WhatsApp chat ka screen recording aur screenshot liye, jisme mera number dikh raha hai, mera flat no, mera building ka naam dikh raha hai, and she sent it to a media page.” Fortunately, the media professional involved alerted Kashish instead of publishing it. “Woh media page wala was a good person and my friend, so he sent that to me,” she added.
Kashish Kapoor Recalls How She Confronted The Trollers
Confronting the issue head-on, Kashish chose not to stay silent. “Then I sent it on the group ki what the hell is this happening. Fir they started backtracking, apologise nahi kar rahe hai. That is when I lost it,” she recalled. Making her stance clear, she added, “Main apne building mein nahi darne wali hu. Meet me right now, I want to talk to you all, or else I’ll file a complaint.” Even during the confrontation, she felt dismissed. “He started giving me ‘arrey madam aapko Maharashtra mein rehna hai toh…’ maine bola haan toh aage bol. Maine bhi bola main tax bharti hu, and he didn’t even see the video.”
Kashish Kapoor Recalls Cat-Calling Incident That Scared Her
However, what shook her the most was an incident on the street that followed. “Maine ye on the street jis din suna, mujhe us din scary laga, I was walking home, and 2 ladke bagal mein khade the, and they saw me, they recognised me, and they started talking about it about this very topic and loudly ‘ki arrey awaz toh nahi ho rahi’, and they continued it for a while. Wo mujhe thoda sa scary laga tha. Like, I am supposed to run here? I won’t run, and agar inka maatha firka aur ye mere bagal mein aake kahi yahi bakwaas shuru karde off course extreme nahi hoga mere saath yaha din dahade, but you don’t need extreme for it to be bad, even a small thing would have scared me for a long, long time,” she said.
Kashish Kapoor’s account sheds light on how public scrutiny, sexism, and casual harassment can bleed into personal spaces and everyday safety. By speaking up, she continues to assert her right to express, exist, and feel safe—on-screen and off it.
