EXCLUSIVE: Mona Singh talks about people’s judgement on choosing husband Shyam Rajagopalan: I keep those toxic people away from my life

Actor Mona Singh is often subjected to heavy criticism over her looks and sometimes even for the choices she made. Speaking about the same, in a recent chat with Bollywood Bubble, Mona Singh revealed how people judged her for choosing her husband Shyam Rajagopalan. She said she invited people who didn’t comment on her decision but graciously accepted her and celebrated it with her.

When asked if she feels accepted by being relevant in today’s world, she said, “It’s much much more today. A lot of my friends have been getting married. I have had a love marriage, my husband comes from a very different background. They’re South Indians, different cultures but nobody commented at my wedding. None of the people who I had invited, commented about my choice or my decision. It’s my life and everybody was graciously accepting and celebrating it with me. I saw that change and of course, I invited the people who care for me and who wish me the best.“

She continued, “I didn’t invite all the relatives who used to say behind my back, ‘What have you done? Who is he? The marriage was not done in a certain way.’ I keep those toxic people away from my life. Nowadays, even on set, nobody comments about other actors, ‘Oh my God, look at her, what has she done, what is he doing, what is that’. It’s all changed, nobody is gossiping. People are working as a team, passionately driven towards one thing which is to make the project look good.”

Mona Singh on having a supportive husband

The Laal Singh Chaddha actor said, “He’s been super supportive about everything. As an individual, sometimes I tend to procrastinate. I tend to just lie low, easy, lazy don’t want to do anything. He’s the one who pushes me. He says ‘What are you doing go, you’ve been invited to this go, meet this one, do that, watch this, read something, do something’. He’s the one who tells me. I tell him that ‘The makers have wrapped up the shoot and they are throwing a party. I don’t feel like going, I’m so lazy’. He’s like ‘Shut up, you worked hard on it. Go, meet and celebrate it. Just go and take the keys with you because I’ll fall asleep.”

She reveals why she married Shyam Rajagopalan

The Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin actor said, “Such a supportive husband in today’s times is a dream. It really is because most of the men get intimidated by a successful woman and an independent woman. They don’t know how to handle their success, so they make them feel weak, ‘you are not good enough’. I don’t see that in him and that is I think one of the big reasons I married him. Even before marriage, I knew him for 5 years but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to tie the knot or settle down. I was seeing him but not once he said anything bad about my profession, my acting or the way I looked.”

“He always celebrated me and not once I thought maybe I should not tell him this or maybe I should keep this away from him and it’ll change some equation. No, I trust him and he trusts me and we both celebrate each other and I think that’s a beautiful feeling.”

Shyam Rajagopalan and Mona Singh got married to each other on December 27, 2019, in a traditional Sik ceremony.
