EXCLUSIVE: Saiyami Kher Hopes Anushka Sharma’s Chakda ‘Xpress Releases Soon; Admits, “I Was Looking Forward To It For The Last 2-2.5 Years”

Actress Saiyami Kher has made a name for self in the Hindi film industry ever since she debuted opposite Harshvardhan Kapoor in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s 2016 romantic fantasy Mirzya. Since then, she’s starred in several films, including Mauli, Choked, Ghoomer, and more. During an exclusive telephonic conversation centred on the theatrical re-release of R Balki’s 2023 sports drama co-starring Abhishek Bachchan, the actress spoke about eagerly awaiting the release of Anushka Sharma’s cricket film Chakda ‘Xpress. Saiyami Kher On Anushka Sharma’s Chakda ‘Xpress’ Release

When asked if she feels Anushka Sharma’s much-awaited Chakda ‘Xpress should release – especially given that her cricket drama Ghoomer is re-released in theatres coinciding with and celebrating the Indian Women’s Cricket team lifting the 2025 ICC World Cup, Saiyami Kher shared, “It’s a film on Jhulan Ma’am. I didn’t want the World Cup win to be the reason for it to be released because I was really looking forward to the film because of the journey of Jhulan Ma’am. She was an incredible fast bowler, and what she’s done for the country. For people who followed her career, she was a very difficult bowler to face. So I was really looking forward to the film for the last 2-2.5years. So anytime is a good time to release it because we should be celebrating her and what she’s achieved.”

About Chakda ‘Xpress

Written by Abhishek Banerjee and directed by Prosit Roy, Chakda ‘Xpress is an unreleased biographical sport drama based on the life of former Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami. Aside from Anushka Sharma as the titular character, the biopic also stars Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Renuka Shahane, Anshul Chauhan, Koushik Sen, Mahesh Thakur in pivotal roles. The team wrapped filming in December 2022, but a release date is still awaited.

On the professional front, Saiyami Kher – who was last seen on the big screen as SI Vijaya Lakshmi in Sunny Deol’s Jaat, is currently filming Haiwaan, scheduled to release in 2026.
