Daddy, Poster Boys

On Friday, Arjun Rampal-starrer ‘Daddy’ and ‘Poster Boys’ starring the Deol brothers and Shreyas Talpade, hit the screens. While the former is based on the real life story of gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli, the latter is a Hindi remake of the hit Marathi flick of the same name ‘Poshter Boyz’. Sadly, none of these movies managed to rake in the desired collection.

Arjun Rampal’s ‘Daddy’ registered an opening of Rs 1.25 crore nett and the collections have majorly come from Mumbai. In circuits like Delhi/UP, the movie has barely managed to collect Rs 15 lakh nett. The numbers in Mumbai are four to five times better than those of Delhi/UP. The movie showed a very minimal growth of 20% on Saturday as it raked in Rs 1.50 crore nett. So, that takes its two day business to Rs 2.75 crore nett. The movie is actually doing 65-70% of its all India business in Mumbai alone and Mumbai usually witnesses more fall than the other places in weekdays, so it’s going to be doubly tough for the movie to sustain or grow in terms of box office over the weekdays. Talking about Shreyas Talpade’s ‘Poster Boys’, the movie managed to do better than ‘Daddy’ on its opening day by minting Rs 1.75 crore nett. However, these numbers are also poor. Way back in 2001, Sunny Deol’s movies like ‘Indian’ and ‘Gadar’ saw an opening of Rs 1.80 crore nett and Rs 1.40 crore nett respectively. But, that was 16 years back and those movies had spent more on actual production. ‘Poster Boys’ had a sleek chance only if it managed to grow by 60-70% on Saturday but that didn’t happen as the movie showed a growth of mere 40% on Saturday. The movie raked in Rs 2.50 crore nett on Saturday. So, that takes its total two-day business to Rs 4.25 crore nett. Even if the numbers are better than those of ‘Daddy’, the collections are still not up to the mark.
