Alpha Box Office Day 7: Alia Bhatt, Sharvari-Led Spy Actioner Fails To Net Rs 50 Cr In Week 1

Shiv Rawail’s Alpha – released globally on Friday, July 3, has completed one week in theatres, but its numbers aren’t that exciting. Led by Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor, the film is witnessing a decline at the box office and recorded its lowest collection yet on Thursday. As per the latest box office report, the seventh film in the YRF Spy Universe has been unsuccessful in earning a net total of Rs 50 crore in the domestic market. As reported by trade website Sacnilk, Alpha earned Rs 2.50 crore net across 7,019 shows in India on Thursday. Overseas, the Alia Bhatt, Sharvari-led spy thriller grossed Rs 1.25 crore on Day 7, taking its total overseas gross to Rs 22.55 crore in Week 1. Paired with a domestic gross collection of Rs 56.54 crore, the film’s current worldwide gross collection stands at Rs 79.09 crore.

Alpha Day-Wise Breakdown

While this report notes Alpha’s domestic net collection as Rs 47.45 crore and worldwide gross total as Rs 79.09 crore, the production house’s latest Insta post reveals different numbers. As per their post, the film’s worldwide total currently stands at Rs 81.51 crore – Rs 58.56 crore from the domestic market and Rs 22.95 crore ($2.39 million) from overseas. They’ve reproted the film’s net domestic total as Rs 48.40 crore.

Directed by Shiv Rawail, the story of Alpha is by Uday Chopra with screenplay by Soumil Shukla & Shridhar Raghavan and dialogues by Ishita Moitra. The action spy thriller stars Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol in lead roles. It also features Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Sangay Tsheltrim and Dia Mirza as pivotal characters as well as a cameo appearance by Hrithik Roshan.

Criticising the film, Bollywood Bubble gave the spy thriller a 2-star rating. A part of the review read, “Uday Chopra, please don’t write another story – especially for the YRF Spy Universe. The screenplay is bad and blotchy. The dialogues lack conviction and flare.” The review also noted, “Shiv Rawail – who created and directed The Railway Men, fails to hit the mark this time. He’s been unsuccessful in capturing the raw emotions of the characters. Forget being desi like Dhurandhar, the film fails to even have the same emotions as the initial two films of the YRF Spy Universe – Ek Tha Tiger and Tiger Zinda Hai.”
