Vicky Kaushal To Bulk Up For Amar Kaushik's Mahavatar

Vicky Kaushal is set to bulk up for his upcoming role as Parashurama in Mahavatar, with his physical preparation scheduled to begin once he completes filming Love & War. If Chhaava (2025) was any indication, Kaushal effortlessly slips into larger-than-life characters, and this new role promises to be no different. The film, which will see him portray Chiranjeevi Parashurama, the 6th avatar of Lord Vishnu, is slated to begin production in October—eight months from now—and the delay is intentional. The actor needs to develop a muscular, wrestler-like physique, complete with a rugged appearance and long, matted hair, to do justice to the mythological epic directed by Amar Kaushik of Stree fame.

Vicky Kaushal To Bulk Up For Amar Kaushik’s Mahavatar?

Although pre-production has already started on a grand scale, Kaushal’s immersion into the character will have to wait until after he finishes Love & War. A source told mid-day, “The actor cannot begin his physical prep as he is currently shooting Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, in which he sports an athletic look. For Mahavatar, he will need to build a heavy frame like that of a wrestler, complete with a rugged look and long, matted hair. After Love & War reaches the finish line in April, the actor will adopt a new diet plan and workout regime to attain the required look.”

Vicky To Take New Projects

Given the intense transformation needed, it’s unlikely that Kaushal will take on any new projects during this period. Meanwhile, producer Dinesh Vijan and the creative team are using this time to develop the film’s world. The source added, “The DoP, along with the art, production, and costume teams, have already begun soft preparations. The search for the leading lady, who will play Dharini, is ongoing. Rumours of Deepika Padukone being cast as the female lead are baseless.”

Kaushal previously collaborated with producer Dinesh Vijan on Zara Hatke Zara Bachke and Chhaava. Mahavatar was announced in November 2024 and is expected to go on floors in October 2026.
