India is currently angry and the whole nation is seething over the martyrdom of CRPF personnel, who lost their lives in the Pulwama tragedy. Many prominent Bollywood celebrities have condemned this act and recently Ajay Devgn even announced that his film ‘Total Dhamaal’ will not be released in Pakistan.

A couple of days back, veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi had cancelled their visit to Pakistan for a cultural event. Now, the Arts Council of Pakistan has criticised Shabana and her husband Javed for axing their visit to Karachi in the wake of the Pulwama tragedy. The couple was set to take part in centenary celebrations of Shabana’s poet-father Kaifi Azmi.

The Dawn newspaper on Sunday quoted Council President Ahmed Shah saying that Shabana had “crossed the line” the way she attacked Pakistan in a manner not appropriate for a literary person.

“I feel sorry for Shabana Azmi that she has lost hope,” he said. “I don’t criticise her but we deeply feel saddened the way she had expressed disappointment after (the) Pulwama attack. We firmly believe that artists and people who are regarded for their literary and art contribution are the ones who give hope to people. They never disappoint them. But this time Shabana Azmi sounds extremely disappointed,” he added further.

We always say that culture and politics should not be mixed. But at the same time, terror and talks cannot go hand in hand. Indian stars have to unite and give a message that unless Pakistan stops sponsoring terror from its soil, no cultural ties can take place.
