IRS officer Sameer Wankhede has filed a case in the Delhi High Court against Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Netflix, and others. He claims their new web series, The Ba***ds of Bollywood, produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, has damaged his reputation. The series is also Aryan Khan’s directorial debut.
Sameer Wankhede Sues Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan And Aryan Khan
Wankhede says the show is “false, malicious, and defamatory” and portrays him negatively. He believes it misleads viewers and creates a bad image of anti-drug agencies, which can harm public trust in law enforcement. According to Wankhede’s statement, the series was made to attack his image intentionally. He also mentioned a scene where a character shows a middle finger after saying “Satyamev Jayate,” which is part of India’s National Emblem. He claims this act breaks the law under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, and is punishable.
Wankhede has demanded Rs 2 crore as damages, which he says will be donated to Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital for cancer patients.
What Happened in Aryan Khan’s Series?
The web series includes a scene where an officer raids a party. He ignores a man caught smoking a joint because he isn’t from Bollywood, but later arrests another man, who is just drinking, only because he is from the film industry. Viewers believe this scene indirectly criticises Wankhede, who arrested Aryan in 2021 during a drug case.
The Backstory
Aryan Khan was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in 2021. Later, the CBI accused Wankhede of demanding Rs 25 crore from the Khan family for Aryan’s release. Reports claimed Rs 50 lakh was paid before the deal was exposed. Wankhede has denied all charges.
