sonam kapoor swara bhasker, richa chadha react to hijab row

The Karnataka Hijab row is escalating with each passing day. The ongoing unrest in the state is over whether students should be permitted to wear hijab in educational institutions. The whole controversy erupted after the Karnataka government on February 5 issued an order mandating a dress code in all schools and colleges, with a ban on clothes that “disturb equality, integrity and public law and order”.

The Hijab Row has also caught the attention of many Bollywood celebrities who are reacting to the issue. Celebs like Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker, Richa Chadha, Kamal Haasan and many more have shared their views on the hijab controversy.

Check out Sonam Kapoor, Richa Chadha, Swara Bhasker and others reactions to Hijab Row:

Taking to Instagram, Sonam shared a picture of a man in a turban and a woman in a hijab, and it questions why can a turban be a choice but a hijab can’t.

Swara Bhasker too reacted to the issue and wrote, “Shameful state of affairs” In another tweet she wrote, “Apartheid/ segregation waali feeling aayi”

Richa Chadha condemned yesterday’s protests, and wrote, “Raise your sons better! A bunch of ugly, cowards attacking a lone woman in a pack and feeling proud of it ? WHAT LOSERS! Shameful. They’ll be jobless, more frustrated and penniless in a few years. What poor upbringing! No sympathy, no redemption for them (sic).”

Kamal Haasan took to Twitter to condemn the act. He wrote, “What is happening in Karnataka is provoking unrest. A religious poison wall is being erected among the students who are not lying. What is happening in the neighbouring state beyond the single wall should not come to Tamil Nadu. It is time for the progressive forces to be more careful (sic).”

Javed Akhtar wrote on Twitter, “I have never been in favour of Hijab or Burqa. I still stand by that but at the same time, I have nothing but deep contempt for these mobs of hooligans who are trying to intimidate a small group of girls and that too unsuccessfully. Is this their idea of ‘MANLINESS’. What a pity.”

The Karnataka High Court on Thursday ordered the students to refrain from wearing hijabs, saffron shawls till further orders. This is irrespective of the religion they were following.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the Supreme Court declined to urgently hear the appeals against the Karnataka High Court`s interim order banning the hijab and other religious dresses in schools and colleges in the state.
