Avinash Gowariker Reveals How Salman Khan’s Iconic Ganji Look Became Judwaa’s Poster
When asked about the photoshoot of Salman Khan in Judwaa, Avinash Gowariker said, “I mean, Mukul Anand was doing Dus, and he wanted to do a look test with Salman. We used to casually shoot, and Salman liked shooting in his building. One day, he said, ‘Let’s just walk across and shoot.’ I took some pictures. And Salman, being Salman, he suddenly removed his ganjee, placed it on his head, and we shot those pictures.”

Continuing, he said, “He took the negatives, and in the evening, we were reviewing the shots together. He was saying, ‘Yeah, this one is good, this one’s not,’ when Sajid Nadiadwala walked in and said, ‘Mind-blowing! This is the Judwaa poster!’ Now imagine—imagine what Sajid Nadiadwala must have been thinking! Imagine Salman! That’s the kind of crazy, out-of-the-box thinking they had. So he saw that photo and made it into the Judwaa poster. At that point, the climax of Judwaa hadn’t even been shot.”
Concluding his story, Avinash said,” Because Salman looked so good in that image, they actually wrote that pose into the film’s climax. That’s fantastic. And that’s exactly why these guys are so successful. Why are they who they are? Now tell me, how lucky am I? Because back then, I was a new photographer. The main photoshoots were handled by the bigger names. I never used to do those. But life is a gradual process. It’s all been a steady, uphill journey. Nothing happened overnight. It wasn’t like one shot suddenly changed everything. It was a nice, gradual upswing. And thanks to God, it’s just been an easy, smooth climb.”
