EXCLUSIVE: Shah Rukh Khan or Govinda? Dulquer Salmaan and Gulshan Devaiah reveal their favourite ‘90s superstar

For any ’90s kid, that time was the golden era of Indian cinema. It is what we grew up on and loved. The era also gave us many superstar actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Sunny Deol, Govinda and many more. To choose one favourite from them is a tough task. But Dulquer Salmaan and Gulshan Devaiah do that in an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble.

Dulquer and Gulshan recently appeared in RajKummar Rao led show Guns & Gulaabs. The show has a lot of retro nostalgia and the 90s feels. So, keeping in sync with that, when we asked the two of them which actor defines 90s era for them, both had different answers. While Gulshan took Govinda’s name, Dulquer shared he is a Shah Rukh Khan fan.

Explaining why, Gulshan said, “I love Shah Rukh and I really love the energy. But when I think of the 90s, the most fun period for me when I was studying and all those songs, immediately comes Govinda films to mind.”

Dulquer’s love for SRK

Further, Dulquer went on to share his love for SRK. He said, “He changed the sort of language of cinema at that time. He came in when nobody was expecting it. He came in with nothing to lose. He felt like, he was this bulldoze and he would come and do all this. And I find that very inspiring, just his ambition and drive to be the best. Even he keeps saying that I tell myself I am the best.”

The South superstar added that against all odds Shah Rukh made it, and that inspires him. He insisted, “It’s just a unique personality that I don’t think Indian cinema had ever seen. He had all the odds against him, no background in the movies, he started out from television. Nobody would predict that he is gonna become this huge massive star.” To which even Gulshan agreed and added, “And he is still around doing it.”

When mentioned that even RajKummar always says he is a Shah Rukh fan, Gulshan quipped, “Raj has been saying ‘Shah Rukh, Shah Rukh’ for a long time. He is genuine with that thing.” Well, the love for SRK is universal and it shows in the hype for his upcoming release Jawan as well. Meanwhile, Gulshan, Dulquer and RajKummar did an impressive job in Guns & Gulaabs. The series is streaming on Netlfix.
