Jab Harry Met Sejal, Tubelight

Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma-starrer ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ has registered the fourth highest first weekend figures worldwide. The movie has managed to do a business of around Rs 100 crore worldwide and stands at the fourth spot when it comes to the worldwide opening weekend figures of 2017. However, the film could not beat the first weekend worldwide business of Salman Khan-starrer ‘Tubelight’ which had done a worldwide business of Rs 109 crore in its first weekend. So, it is quite clear that Shah Rukh Khan’s movie could not beat the collections of Salman Khan’s movie in the opening weekend.

The top slot is occupied by the blockbuster and record-breaking flick ‘Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion’ which did a business of Rs 210 crore followed by Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’ which did a business of Rs 128 crore and the third and fourth slots are occupied by ‘Tubelight’ and ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ respectively. And, it’s not just the worldwide figures, but also in India alone, ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ couldn’t beat the figures of Salman Khan’s ‘Tubelight’. Shah Rukh Khan’s movie did a gross business of Rs 57 crore in its first weekend in India while Salman Khan’s movie did a gross business of Rs 61.53 crore in its first weekend in India. If you take into consideration the holiday period, then ‘Tubelight’ had released on June 23 which was a Friday and Ramzan Eid was on Monday which was a public holiday, so the movie got an extended weekend until Monday. Similarly, for Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’, the movie too got an extended weekend as Monday is the festival of Rakshabandhan, but the only difference here is that Rakshabandhan is a partly-holiday and not a public holiday.

Yet, one cannot debate over the fact that in spite of immense buzz and unique marketing strategies, SRK’s ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ couldn’t cross the first weekend figures of Salman Khan’s ‘Tubelight’.
