Sanjay Leela Bhansali has resumed shooting for his much-awaited Alia Bhat starrer period drama Gangubai Kathiawadi. In the film, Alia will play the character of a brothel chief from Mumbai. Gangubai Kathiawadi’s filming begun in last year but given the Covid-19 pandemic, the shoot was stalled.

Almost a month-long schedule that is pending to complete, Gangubai Kathiawadi team intends to finish it by March this year. Now, according to the latest reports, the Alia Bhatt starrer’s post-digital rights have already been sold.

According to a report by Pinkvilla, a source revealed that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has sealed a deal with a streaming giant. “The post-release streaming rights of Gangubai have been sold to an OTT giant for a hefty sum in the vicinity of Rs 70 crore. The paperwork is currently underway. The star-cast, grandeur and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s goodwill have led the team of Gangubai towards striking this massive deal. His films have a loyal audience outside India too, and the streaming platform too has a base to cater to them,” said the source.

The report also says that Gangubai Kathiawadi is meant for the big screen and the team is aiming for a release post-August.

Bhansali will also be making his digital debut with a show titled Heera Mandi. The filmmaker will direct the first and last two episodes of the show that reportedly stars Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi, Nimrat Kaur, Sayani Gupta and Manisha Koirala in pivotal roles.
