Twinkle Khanna, Mallika Dua

It all started with Akshay Kumar‘s comment ‘Mallika Ji aap bell bajao, mai aapko bajata hoon‘ directed at Mallika Dua on the reality show ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’. While she ignored it during the episode, her father, renowned journalist Vinod Dua slammed Akshay for his sexist comments. Soon, Mallika also lashed out against the actor by writing a long open letter on Twitter, “Is Kareena Kapoor not entitled to speak about things because she played Chameli? Is Vidya Balan not entitled to speak about things because she did ‘The Dirty Picture’? The people who shame us for the characters we play are the same people who make it okay for a Bhupendra Chaubey to speak to Sunny Leone the way he did. Shame on you. Fortunately, you can’t stop us.”

After that, Twinkle Khanna came out in support of her husband by tweeting,

Things didn’t stop there as she further tweeted, making a joke of the situation.

Not the one to stay calm, Mallika commented on her tweet by writing, “HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH No.”

And then, Mallika’s father Mr Vinod Dua, rose up in defence of his daughter and slammed Twinkle in an FB post which was later deleted. He wrote, “Ms.Twinkle Khanna responds to the laughter challenge controversy. It is a prosaic excuse from an embarrassed wife. Be that as it may, the point has been driven home. This chap will be careful in the future before making depraved statements like “Mallika ji aap Bell bajao, mai aapko bajaata hoon”. We don’t wish to pursue the matter any further.”

Now, after all the mess that has been created, Twinkle rendered an apology on her FB page. She wrote, “Unwise Wisecracks
As I reflect on my actions this past week, I realize that I got pulled into this debate not as a social commentator but as a wife and unlike my normal, slightly rational self, my reaction was purely emotional and without perspective, and I have been rather miserable about it ever since.
I would like to apologize to everyone who felt that I was trivializing the cause of feminism especially because I strongly believe in equality and have been a feminist from the time I was a young woman, much before I even knew the term.”

Umm, we really don’t know what triggered the actress to apologise for her comments. Without taking any sides, we would now like the matter to rest. (Also Read: Akshay Kumar-Mallika Dua Update! Father calls Twinkle Khanna an embarrassed wife)
