Amid the trolling and online backlash that followed the release of Border 2’s trailer and especially after the emotional track Ghar Kab Aaoge, Varun Dhawan found himself at the receiving end of constant social media chatter. But instead of letting the negativity affect him, the actor chose to focus on the support that truly mattered. Recalling the phase at the film’s success event earlier today, Varun shared how Salman Khan personally reached out to him with words of encouragement during the tough time. Scroll on to know what he revealed.
Varun Dhawan Recalls Salman Khan Saying “I Am Proud Of You Beta”
One of the most touching moments came when he spoke about Salman Khan’s support. “Mujhe raat ko Salman bhai ka call aaya… unhone bas itna kaha ki achha time aane wala hai, and his advice and belife ment a lot to me. Phir jab Border 2 release hui aur achha perform kiya, unhone phir call kiya aur kaha, ‘I am so happy for all of you.’
Further revealing Varun recalled a moment that stayed very close to his heart, he shared, “Something that he said which stays so close to my heart, raat ke do baje the ‘Main literally bed par khada ho gaya yeh sunke. He said ‘I am proud of you, beta.’ and it was a defining moment for me, and he doesn’t praise people easily.”
Varun Dhawan Says Salman Khan’s Advice Stayed With Him
The actor added that his words gave him a lot of confidence, “Unhone yeh kehne ki zarurat nahi thi, lekin unke words ne mujhe bahut confidence diya. End of the day, main film par believe karta hoon, Bhagwan par believe karta hoon, Lord Krishna par believe karta hoon. Baaki sab history ka hissa ban jaata hai.”
When asked again about trolling in the same event, Varun lightened the mood with humour. Laughing, he joked, “Tab to mujhe wahi lag raha tha ki film ki promotion ho rahi hai, ek tarike se.” He added cheekily, “Aapko bhi pata hai ki kitne paise dene padte hain posts kharidne ke liye, taaki aap kuch daalo to woh…” The audience erupted in cheers and applause, appreciating his candid and confident take.
For Varun, the phase served as a reminder that real-life struggles outweigh fleeting online criticism. While social media debates continued, he quietly balanced work with worry as his father remained in the ICU, returning to set only after his family urged him to stay committed to the film. In hindsight, the trolling felt insignificant compared to those personal battles, and with Border 2 now winning hearts at the box office, the actor chooses to carry forward gratitude, resilience, and the confidence instilled by those who stood by him.
