Television actor T Ravichandran has sought anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court after being booked by the Chennai police for allegedly threatening to kill MP Kamal Haasan over his remarks on Sanatana Dharma. Ravichandran approached the court following the registration of a case by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Chennai police, which accused him of issuing a death threat to Rajya Sabha member and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader Kamal Haasan.

On Monday, Justice G. Jayachandran heard the plea and instructed the government advocate to gather details from the CCB before scheduling the next hearing on Wednesday. Ravichandran told the court that the comments he made during a YouTube interview were “unintentional” and not meant as a genuine threat.

The controversy arose when Haasan, during the 15th anniversary celebration of actor Suriya’s Agaram Foundation earlier this month, emphasized the significance of education as a means for social change. He stated that education was the “only weapon” capable of breaking the “shackles of Sanatana Dharma.”
